Did get in touch prior to leaving feedback when I replied saying I thought they were fine and asked why they thought it wasn't right .... reply received ... "The fit and the fact the inner vase hasn't got any grinding I'm an organic chemist so I sort of know about glass ground stoppers and their fit"
No answer to that one is there? :sun:

"Stopper & vase don't belong but I'm giving benefit of doubt service excellent" a little knowledge is a dangerous thing but thought they both look fine to me though the stopper was a 'sloppy' fit.

Mdina stoppers don't fit. They are merely things stuck in the top of the bottles for decorative purposes not to achieve a seal, which is why you grind stopper and neck on decanters and chemical and perfume bottles.

Pattern is a match though.
Sure I read somewhere here recently that they were supplied with and without stoppers and the neck was not always ground. They certainly are ground some times as I have one that is but has no stopper!

The neck was not ground, the colour a perfect match, I have explained that these were just sold off the shelf purely a decorative item and were never an exact science, unlike the spirit decanters which were made to 'fit' and were often number matched and kept together, contrary to popular belief I do actually know a little about glass but you know what these scientists are like they tend to over analyse and look a little too deep into things, me I like to keep things simple and hate ambiguous feedback unless of course it's deserved :sun: and they do actually know what they are talking about of course.
I await them to 'concede' ?

As already stated any 'fit' will be loose and approximate for these bottles and stoppers. I think a better way to judge is the height that the stopper sits above the neck - not too high and not too low, this example looks spot on. More often than not the stopper from one bottle will not fit another anyway. If there was no need to grind the inside of the neck for a good fit then it would not have been done, especially as they were so busy fulfilling orders, working flat out (during the 1970s when this was likely made).

A good idea John, also probably searching on here for "stoppered bottles Mdina" will find some matches regarding the wobbliness etc being normal ....
