Title: Pink Sea Shell Glass ? Murano or Asian ??
Post by: antiquerose123 on November 22, 2011, 08:13:47 AM
 :hi:

Found this item for $ 5 and it kinda looked Murano to me.....but then it kinda looked Asian to me too.  It is about 3 inches tall, 5 inches long, and 4 inches wide.  There are Bubbles in it, and heavier chunks of Silver Foil.  Good weight for its small size, as just over a pound in weight.

I think Murano, because it looks like it.....                 or                    I think maybe Asian because the Silver Flakes seem bigger type.....

I do not know.  Any ideas on this one  :-\

At only $5 it doesn't matter either way, as it could be a +/- (win, or lose situation).  Any assistance would be grateful  :kissy:

The bullicate shape and the 'bad' scalloped rim suggests oriental in my opinion. Looks to be 80's ish or so in my opinion. Probably Chinese, God forbid bad Japanese, I think they can do better.

???  I am confused on this one too....

After a zillion key strokes (typing sea shell, conch shell, then stumbled on to this).    I did find an Murano item with a label on it that is very much the same.....but I am open to opinions still on this one.

Let me know what you think of this item that does have a  Murano label on it, HERE  (http://www.oldluxe.com/AVEM-Murano-Glass-Cornucopia-Old-Luxe-104.htm)  It looks to have bigger silver flakes in it too....

????????

:help: :help: :help:

Could you upload some more pics of the spiral etc. Your one looks different to me but then again, with all the Murano you are picking up lately, it could very well be.

Thanks kane_u_pain for your reply.  I will take some other pics with a darker back ground.  ;D

Yes, the link I had posted and this one look very much the same.  The only difference that I could see with that one with the label was it had an opening in the scroll end where mine does not.......But now digging around some more.....I find one on Svazzo site that does not have an opening in the scroll either.  So I am still not sure on my item.  I bought it for $5 so I just took a chance on it since it was so little $$ IF it was Asian.   Now I am wondering if it might not be ???

Here is Svazzo link on one:  http://www.trocadero.com/svazzo/items/952137/item952137store.html (http://www.trocadero.com/svazzo/items/952137/item952137store.html)  The sizes of his, and mine are pretty close too, as I might have to re-measure mine

But still ??

The silver is applied as foil, so the size of the pieces it breaks up into will depend on the way it was worked. Yours could be Murano; it's a fallacy to assume that all Murano is good quality. Unfortunately yours isn't as good as the labelled one, but all that means is it's not the same maker.

Stop being a size queen antique...we aren't all blessed with big bowls or conch shells... :help:  :t:

Agree with lustrousstone...it could be Murano but by a lesser maker...best to leave it as unconfirmed. It does look okay but my thoughts go elsewhere. It is the bullicante in yours that makes me question

@ Lustrousstone  - Thanks for that affirmation on glass, and how we see it.

@ kane_u_pain  -  LOL, on the Size issue.  But I just was noting that the size of the one Svazzo has, and mine are near the same size....LOL.  That is all...It is the size of a person Heart that matters.....LOL

Yes, the jury is still out on this item.  I will take some more pics as promised to get some better shots.

Interesting little chunk of glass

(http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/alles_moegliche/mixed-smiley-008.gif)  Time will tell IF we can further give this item a true ID
