Title: Tall skinny vase - very 50's early 60's look - any information?

This vase is nearly 17" (42.6cm) tall and 4" (10.2cm) wide.  I call it a vase.  Maybe it's an urn.  It looks 50's or early 60's to me.  I haven't been able to find photos of a similar vase.  On page 144 in "Popular '50s and '60s Glass - Color Along the River" by Leslie Pina, there is a tall skinny cased pitcher with clear handle and clear base that is listed as probably from Murano.  The base of the pitcher is very similar to the base of my vase.  The glass in that chapter is from the 60's.  All of the glass seems to have white interiors - mine does not.  Does anyone have an opinion on the origin of this vase?  Would you say it's Murano?  Would you agree it's probably 60's?

The yellow color in these 2 photos is probably nearer to the color of the vase although it looks a little washed out.  The color in the first 2 photos is a little bright.

It looks Italian to me. The stem type is one I've seen on several Italian pieces.

Thomas & Anita,

I've had a range with the same type of stem and foot positively identified as post-war Empoli.   I can't see any reason for your vase, Thomas, to be any different.   I think it was Ivo who told us that individual glasshouses in Empoli were now impossible to identify.

Have you tested it with a UV light? The foot looks rather opaque for Empoli and the overall style doesn't look quite right. I wouldn't rule out the US.

The foot is milk glass and therefore would be fully opaque. For provenance you then look at Murano or at Belgium. Here is a pic of a Moretti satinated ewer in the Etruscan style - which arguably has the same sort of foot.

I took 2 photos using UV light but I have an inexpensive UV lamp that only puts out 4 watts.  It's not enough for taking photos.  I thought putting 2 pieces of glass (photo 2) that I knew would fluoresce beside the vase for comparison would help, but it didn't.  The foot doesn't fluoresce; the vase fluoresces green.

Even from that picture I would say that was probably uranium glass. Back to my US theory...

Italian because of the lattimo foot, the light uranium body and the specific shape. :ho:
