Title: Is this by Blenko or Italian??
Post by: jonnybrum on March 06, 2006, 09:22:07 PM
Found this today during my lunch time charity shop mooch. First I thought it might be by Blenko but then wondered if it might be Italian.  Has some age on account of one dead spider sitting on the bottom.  Any info from you folk would be great.

Italian, I nearly bought one of these at a car boot, still had remnants of a 'Made in Italy' sticker (I only turned it down when I noticed a crack across the base). can't help as to maker but guess it dates from the late 60's to early 70's from the design.

Hi Jonny

I'm fairly certain this is an Italian decanter from the 70's.  My Mum has one in browny amber.

Hello, Normally I do assume "Italian" when I see any of these textured, cheerful coloured bottles (when obviously not of serious quality, like Blenko). I collect them myself, for decorative value only.

However, there is something "Dartington" about the design on this one. It may just be a fluke that it is a daisy design.

I've just found an almost identical bottle in the Blenko 1963 catalogue.
(in the 'BLENKO GLASS 1962-1971 catalogs' Schiffer book  pg.20)

The only difference is that the Blenko one only has 2 leaves and none of the Blenko stuff for that year were made in that green.

Is it possible that it is an Italian copy?

I know that Helena Tynell's aurinkopullo (sun vase) was copied by the Italians.

Thanks to everyone that's contributed so far....

Just had a look on ebay and found one indentical - minus the stopper -  which was attributed to Empoli.  Don't know if that's correct but it's possible as I understand they are an Italian company??
