Title: Uranium Glass Plates
Post by: petet63 on December 07, 2011, 01:31:42 PM
I need help again finding a maker for these two large Plates. They are 3.5cm high and 28 cm across. Coldnt find anything on Pressglass. If anyone has any tips for searching it would help. I try all the usual sites that are mentioned on here but keep getting frustrated at not finding many at all. As a real novice I thought this was Sowerby but again, I cant find it. Thanks

Are they really uranium? If they are, the colour is wrong for Sowerby (that has a hint of yellow), but Brockwitz might be an option with that pale green.

I think it matches a bowl that I had recently, (also U.V. reactive) designed by Frantisek Peceny for Hermanova Hut Glassexport (before 1958) seen in the accompanying catalogue CD-Rom to Sklo Union - Art Before Industry: 20th Century Czech Pressed Glass by Marcus Newhall.  This shows three versions, two bowls and a shallow one 28cm which I suspect is yours - patt.19805.

Hi, I checked out what I could but couldn't get a definite ID. Tried to get the book but it is  not available where I checked. It would be a handy book to get. I think I will just list the plates and see how they go after a bit more research . Thanks for your help once again. Pete

I think your uranium is manganese, sorry. The green "glow" isn't nearly strong enough for uranium.
