Title: 5 lobed paperweight?
Post by: vanmann on December 09, 2011, 03:54:44 PM
Any thoughts please on this. It has a shallow indent to top and polished narrow base. What I assume to be the base, pointed end, shows no sign on wear whilst there is wear all around the other , wider end. It therefore seems to have been used pointed end up, doorstop perhaps? The narrow pointed end appears to be polished but not finished as I would expect if it was to be on show.
All suggestions and thoughts as to maker, use, which way up!! much appreciated. John

Seen lots of Italian pieces with metal bases glued to glass tops.  Just wondered if this represents the reverse - that is you have the unglued base, and the metal top is missing.  It would make a very stable base I assume with its weight.
