Happy New Year :)
My first purchase of 2012.. The paper label & button rim would leave me to believe this is early production but the chevron pattern would suggest mid to late 70's? Can anyone tell me if this is correct?
Thanks
James.

Happy New Year :)
James, I think these are small perfume type bottles which usually have a glass dropper inside. It's difficult to say exactly without the dimensions, generally the globes are larger in size, I would suspect your piece is fairly small..?
The pattern of you bottle is also one seen on other pieces, I think roughly its dates from late 70s and into the 80s. Its not a pattern that I would associate with early production.
The size will confirm for sure.

Hi Greg . . .
I don't think it is a perfume bottle, as I have had perfume bottles before and the inside of the neck of this vase is smooth, not ground so as to suggest it would take a stopper, if that makes sense.
I agree the pattern would not suggest early production but the button rim and label would suggest otherwise!?!
The height of the vase is approx 4.5"

Greg is spot on, a perfume bottle. They are usually seen with a long thin stopper but saying that the stoppers are often broken or lost.
That is not what is referred to as a button rim, it stands tall and does not splay out like a low squished donut. The following photo shows the profile of the button rim on this globe vase: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/EarlyMdinaGlass#5686671087394098066
Your perfume I would guess, judging by the signature (and label), probably dates from the eighties or a bit later.

And I believe the Chevron pattern is a Joseph Said design.

Mdina bottles aren't meant to hold anything, so aren't made airtight by grinding. Any neck grinding is just to make a stopper fit.

Thanks for the info everyone
