Title: An old bottle collection
Post by: Andy on January 02, 2012, 11:42:41 AM
Just off to drop these off to the charity shop, from my teenage years when i did a bit of bottle
digging, i suppose its what gave me an interest in glass.
Found them in my Dads Garage, just put them throught the dishwasher!  >:D
It makes you realise how much glass paid a part in life , before the use of plastic and modern materials.
I dont suppose there was much glass recycling in Victorian days, and millions of functional glass
items were just thrown on the tip.
Some of the embossed bottles are quite interesting, and i think many people still go bottle digging
and collecting today.
I wonder if any other GMB members had or have an interest in the hobby.
I think i have another box of Codd bottles and better stuff somewhere, or i may have given them away
years ago. If you dont know what a Codd bottle was, have a look, interesting invention!

It appears there is little value in the mass produced average glass bottle, i expect they will all end up
back on another tip someday.

Happy New Year to all,
Andy

Rosie, what a shame, just seems out of fashion. Im not even sure the Charity shop will accept
these tatty old things. If not, i will put them in the recycle bin

You're right Andy,  it is a shame!
I did think about burying it in the garden for it to be found in a couple of hundred years by someone who would shout "Treasure" when they found it!

They don't fetch the prices that one feels they should but they do sell. Last one I had went to the States but it was in good nick.
