Title: Is this murano?
Post by: suzi99 on March 10, 2006, 05:55:20 AM
Hi I was just wondering if anyone thinks this is murano & if they would have any idea of the era & maker.  It is a pale blue glass & the gold flowers look applied to the outside.  Any ideas would be great:-)

Not sure if Murano is right.

Moser (Bohemian / Czech) is often said to be the maker of blue opaline pieces with applied gilded decoration in this style. The "Great Glass" website shows several examples (small vases & pots) of the style and dates them to the 1880s.

I've not seen a bowl in this style before. How large (or small) is it?

My first thought was oriental, no second thought though.

I would say definitely not Murano, looks much more like Bohemian to me.

Nice piece, open salt probably made by Harrach or by Moser, nothing remotely Murano about it.

Thanks Ivo I did find an open Moser salt which is very similar but I'll do a bit of research on Harach as I've need heard of them  [/quote]

Ivo would you agree that it would be circa 1880?
