thought I'd a good chance of seeing this on the Sklo Union CD - but no luck - seems to have a more modern look than some of the older German pressed pieces. Also looked through the glass pavillon vases and some of the catalogues, but nothing yet. Very distinctive with all that ridging. Height is about 7"/175mm and fairly wide flat outer foot rim (underside), although not showing extensive wear. Not really my thing, but always like to nail them down, if possible, before they go out, and a sucker for these uranium things. :) Grateful if anyone has any ideas, and thanks for looking.

No idea who made it Paul, but I have the same vase in clear glass. I can't find a pic of mine anywhere though... shall have to take another.

I have finally managed to get mine photographed! 8)

Yes! A lovely find. I am not certain that it is modern though. I must say, my first thoughts were Sklo Union, but now wondering if it could be a one-off experimental or Davidson piece.? The base area certainly has similarities to the Davidson vases I've seen, but I am no expert and not sure whether Davidson pieces contained uranium? I am sure someone will know who made this. How long have you owend yours Anne and are the measurements roughly the same?
-
I thought at first that it might be a SU piece too Otis, but I've not found a match in any of the catalogues as yet. Size-wise mine matches Paul's. Date: I'm sure it's not a modern piece; don't think it's Davidson though, but yes they did make uranium glass before the end of WW2.

Paul a bit of a long shot but try Hemah Glass, I have a small green vase not uranium though which has a very similar shape base. I have not a clue if they even made uranium glass.
I try and add pictur of my vase when I get time

It's not experimental Otis; the cast iron moulds cost far too much money to make and we already know of three colours. Experimental is a much misused word in connection with most glass. Most pressed uranium glass, certainly in green, tends to be no newer than 1950s

http://www.neman.by/en/ = modern production (link added to our websites forum for reference also)

Interesting that it's now all blown or hot-worked

thanks to Roy and Anne.........and would appear nothing to do with Hemah Glass then. Really bugged me when it didn't turn up in the SU data - I felt so sure it would be there somewhere. I get a feeling that it might come from somewhere just post war to perhaps the early '60's - it looks as though it has possibly a more abstract look than much of the older fussy pressed pieces, but maybe I'm just rambling.
Anyway, thanks for everyone's thoughts etc. :)

Paul, I'm agreeing with your suggestion re postwar-1960s. Marcus didn't recognise mine at all when he saw it a few years ago, which makes SU less likely too.

And Hemah did made pressed glass: insulators at least
-
Hemah/J.Stolle Niemen made a lot more than just insulators. I can see where Roy's coming from, the base on this piece is very similar to a pressed vase I owned a while ago which had a moulded "HEMAH" (Cyrillic for Niemen/ Nemen) mark on it. That vase was feature in PK a while ago. PK also published a 1920s-30s J.Stolle Niemen catalogue but sadly i don't have the CD to hand (I am in Suzhou PRC but my PK CDs are all still in the UK) . If anyone else here has a subscription to PK maybe they could have a look and see if this vase is featured in the catalogue?
Steven :)

A couple of not so good pictures of the vase I still have which is signed Hemah C3 i think also on base

Steven, thanks for your info. I was mulling over if there might be a connection between Hemah and J.Stolle Niemen so you've confirmed it for me. I also found it referred to in PK as Glaswerke Julius Stolle, Njoman, so that's worth noting here too for reference.
Roy, your vase appears to be the same as the one Steven is referring to in PK (2007-2), although his is pink not green.
Steven, I don't subscribe to PK but the PDF's I can access don't seem to have the vase Paul and I have.
