I just received this red dove, which I bought before Christmas - couldn't resist the gorgeous colour.
It looks quite well made to me , Is there any way of knowing its maker? Could it be Murano?
It stands 6 inches or approx 15 cm tall, and is about the same length
Base is polished smooth but not perfectly flat - see photo.
Pink/red glass cased in clear, with deep blue eyes on a clear well made stand.
It also has a small inclusion - which looks as if it might be ash?
Will attach more photos in another post.
Hoping for some ID :X:

Tough one. It is made in the style of Seguso VdA, but it is not right for them. It is very similar to a Fratelli Toso bird I have a picture of, but the bill is different. I do not have any good idea of who made this one.

Thanks Anita. I have been right through the birds in the Zoo and like you found some with similarities but none close enough to say "that is it!"
It has reasonable wear to the base - not sure if you cans see that in my photos, so I do not think it is a new Chinese made item.
Would you think it is Murano? even if we cannot identify a particular maker?
thanks

I think it is Murano glass. I tried to find some others on a base like that, but no luck. I've seen the base before, but apparently not one that had a label. I have a feeling it will be tough to attribute unless someone just happens to stumble upon a labeled one. The birds seem like they would be easy, but they are tough because so many made similar looking ones.

Hi Jak do you want an educated guess or can i have a go , i do believe its Murano and i have been collecting Murano birds for a very long time , i am sure its ok and not too recent , mine are in the loft at the moment as i have had builders in but i know at least one with a label has the same beak and a couple have that base .
 jp
I believe the Luxardo decanters had a smilar base and also the Albertros ( probably Cenedese or Salviati had the same ) .

Thanks JP. opinion appreciated and noted! I'm quite new to Murano so appreciate the help from all of you with more knowledge than I
If / when you get yours out of the loft I'd appreciate knowing whose label it has?
Ta muchly,

Hi Jak, I'm certain this is Murano, and I do wonder if it is ICET.....they do some birds on similar bases, and the styling is very similar to ones I have seen.
Svazzo has one very like yours at the moment (Oh Svazzo, you have some lovely pieces I would die for!) do have a look at the eBay site Jak, and see what I mean.

Hi Rosie, thanks for the suggestion of the svazzo Ebay link - I haven't seen that seller before - what fabulous stuff!
I see where you see the similarity with the ICET bird, but I have just examined pictures of both heads and beaks close up and although their are similarities to the head and beak, there are still as many differences as there are with many other makers. The angle of the beak on mine is similar, but my beak is curved rather than dead straight.
I think I need to keep looking a bit longer
Thanks again

I know the problem Jak, trouble is when these beautiful pieces are made as one offs, there will never be two alike, and even with my collection of Langham Glass House Birds, the differences in them is amazing. There were three Langham Woodcocks listed on eBay recently....all were the same but different, and because none of them were identical to the one in the Langham catalogue, none of the sellers would believe me when i said that they were not, avocets, Kiwis or oystercatchers, which was what they were listed as. I even sent them pictures of mine, but no, there was no changing their minds!! Oh yes, and one other was listed as DEFINATELY Wedgwood!
So, without a label, it is just a case of keeping looking until you find another that ticks as many boxes as possible....the nice thing is, whoever made it, it is beautiful, and certainly worth continuing looking for a sufficiently similar one with a label......I will keep a look out and report back if I see anything else.
In the meantime, yes, Svazzo has got some fabulous pieces.....I think he is a GMB member, so might be worth trying to attract his attention.?
Rosie. :)
