Maybe i should have posted this in the murano section?

I think the absence of replies says a lot.

Im sorry Ivo I dont think I understand what you mean?
But I will post again in that section unless this gets moved...which it hasn't yet.

Helga, personally I know the miniscule amount about Murano glass, but I'm not sure this is a Fratelli Toso piece. I could be wrong however :-\
There are a couple of other pieces listed on the site that I'm also not sure about the id's of. It's difficult and sometimes people get their identifications wrong - for example I am currently thinking about buying a piece from an antiques site online, but I know their identification of it is wrong....I know what it is and it's not what they list it as.

I think Ivo means not it's not Fratelli Toso, but to expect answers in barely 3 hours when much of the Northern hemisphere is asleep is also rather optimistic!!
If you don't know what something is, you should post it in the general glass section.
-
yep no I was not wondering about the replies, just wondering about if i had posted in the correct place.
and all those mis-attributions all over the place are tiring I guess, I can see how you serous glass folks end up doing the work yourself!
thanks

I couldn´t tell neither if it´s Fratelli Toso or not, but I saw this shop before, and they misID a lot of stuff indeed. There is a swedish Aseda vase they call Murano:
http://wunderkammershop.de/product_info.php?cPath=37_42&products_id=456
Also they attribute tons of stuff to Carlo Moretti, some are Carlo Moretti, but many seem to be Opaline Florence, hmmm...
-
And I would think this -
http://wunderkammershop.de/product_info.php?cPath=37_42&products_id=1075
is Empoli rather than Carlo Moretti.
If it's Carlo Moretti I've got one very similar at auction on ebay that I'll have to cancel and relist with a new, higher starting bid!
-
I meant no one can tell for sure if that piece was made by Flli Toso or not - so no one will reply. I think it is highly improbable though .- if it were, someone here would know.
-
Yes I see what you all mean, no harm done, its not a style I like and i got for 5 $ at a thrift store.
I was going to post pictures of mine since its got a little bit different shaped handles but I don't think I´ll bother.
I´ll just pretend its something it might have been..or give it as a gift.
Thanks for commenting!

Post the pics, please, Now we all want to see it:)
Who knows, maybe you got something really good... Fratelli Toso vases are at least shaped like the one at Wunderkammershop, which just not gives the feel of being really old and these FT miniature vases are usually from early 20th century, or am I wrong here?
-
Yes -- Do post the pics of your item.....as it *may* be different than the one in the picture.
We can never assume it *might* be the same -- there may be different qualities yours has.
So do post your item....Please
;)

No, it is not Fratelli Toso. I don't know who did this specific vase. A few companies did canes bits that looked like this. I have seen the design several times, but don't remember which company did it.
-
Good morning Helga....please do post your picture, remember, it might help us all to learn and will be here as a reference for the future when one of us does eventually find one with a label....then we will all be winners, especially you as you will know who made your vase then....OK?
Rosie. :)

I see a fair number of these at antique fairs, in fear of sounding like a total bitch I'll keep my opinions about them to myself haha. :wsh:
I personally don't think they're FT. They look more like the sort of thing made in somewhere like Romania.

yes Dan I agree, I dont like it myself, just took it on a whim.
Hmm yes ok I will post my vase in another thread when I can, for informative purposes at least!
Its just soooo freaky how a site like that one i posted in the link can do something like this...250 euros for just...whatever..yikes
many thanks all!

Hi, while seaching ebay today I came across this vase, looks a lot like the one in your link:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330677178867
Labelled "A. Pesavento, Murano Glass, Venezia".
-
Hi Dan, :hi: yes, perhaps more realistically priced as well.

Don't fret Helga, we learn a lot buying some stuff that isn't what we thought it was, and you can always keep it to throw at the wall when you are in a bad temper!! :wsh:
I'm off to my poetry class, so had better put my sensible hat on!! (forgot where I put it!) :-[

No, it's made with cane chips not plain glass chips.

That's interesting. In Worthpoint, there are many entries for items with a form of "Pesavento Murano" label and one in particular seems to tie this thread with another from last year ...
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,40255.msg222836.html#msg222836
And in that other message, I linked to yet another thread that covered a similar subject. (It all gets quite complex sometimes!)
My vase, which I discussed in those other messages is of the same form as the particular Worthpoint entry (http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/murano-art-glass-pesavento-ciampi-venezia-canes-vase) I mentioned above, which has a "Pesavento" label. Another Worthpoint entry (http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/murano-glass-millefiori-italian-italy-paperweight) shows what looks like a Chinese paperweight, but also labelled "Pesavento".
So what's going on? Are those "Pesavento" labels added to a variety of items including Murano & Chinese or are they all from one place, or ...???
