Can't think of the correct description for this underside sort of 'crinkly' effect, but I guess there must be one - top side is smooth. The whole bowl carries a sort of purplish iridescence, which not easy to photograph. Diameter is something like 7.75"/200mm, and there is a quality ground/polished concave pontil mark - but nothing else in the way of marks. Slight kick in the centre of the bowl, and a ten way crimp, with the underside having six small dimpled inset feet, and a few more around the sides. They remind me possibly of some decoration styles I've seen on pewter maybe.
Underside wear is neglibible, but the hump on the inside is showing loss of surface coating, with a lot of surface scratches.
I believe Walsh did some pieces with this finish, and Webb did something called green bronze, I think, but really have no real idea - and although I tend to avoid anything 'carnival' looking usually, I considered this wasn't. I know Webb's were keen on throwing fairy dust into the mix, but this piece definitley doesn't react to u.v. light
Of course, it might just as easily be eastern European from 1920 - 30 period. All ideas welcome, and thanks for looking :)

Hello Paul,reminds me of a Loetz pattern,rusticana or something,I'll have to check :o ;D ;D
-
Would it be possible to see an image of the bowl from the side so we can see the shape and the overall appearance.

slightly hurried bit of photography - but hope they are good enough to show what you need.
-
This is the piece that I thought was similar........(front middle)

Hello, One more shot of the complete piece upside down would be great.... sorry, but I am trying to get a feel for the whole pattern and can not really see it fully in any of these pics. Do it when you have the time to make sure the focus clear please....
Thanks,
Craig

no problem Craig. hope the attached are of some use - let me know if not :) In the flesh with standard daylight, this piece looks distinctively greenish blue.

I agree with Keith that the piece looks like an example of Loetz Rusticana. The pattern is a little more defined than most Rusticana I have seen, but the decor is generally found on vases and not bowls, so I do not have much to compare it with. I looked at my image library and I do not have any examples of Rusticana on a bowl.... They are all vases....
Hope this helps...

many thanks Craig - the name 'Rusticana' referring, I assume, to the 'crinkly' texture on the underside. Appreciate all your efforts - Keith also - and unless someone says otherwise, I will catalogue in accordance your decision. cheers. :)
-
Yes, that is correct...... Kinda looks like tree bark......

Wow, a possible Loetz Piece :o Good Score Paul !!!! :hiclp:

thanks Rose :) - it was from the previous Sunday's outing to the boot sale, and cost me just Sterling £2. I had wondered originally if it might have been British - in fact I don't collect Loetz material (assuming it definitely is that), and am more than happy to pass this on (gratis) to either Craig, Keith or someone else who does.

Wow! Jealous jealous jealous much! How do manage to find a piece like that at a sale for that price... amazing :) I don't have any Loetz yet.....
-
I'll volunteer to be the recipient.... :-) It is a tough job but someone has to do it.....

my pleasure Craig - please send me an off board email with destination details, and it will be on its way. Sorry Selina :) I'm very fortunate in living not too far from London, and in an area which is popular for boot sales and flea markets for 12 months of the year. However, it's not always icing on the cake - the riots of last summer started to get a bit too close at one time.
-
Can I have dibs on the next one you find? LOL ::) I may have something we could trade
-
Selina - you must visit and have an extended holiday here - I will take you to some very good boot sales and flea markets, but I can't guarantee you'll find another like this - it's the first I've ever seen, but will keep fingers crossed for you:)
