Title: Identification help! Four pressed 'posy' vases...

Hi everyone,

Pressed glass (outside Holland)  is a new field for me, so I hope that I will now discover the names and manufacurers for some 'old favorites' in my collection.

the first one is definitely vaseline/canary/uranium!  I can see it glowing all the way to Oklahoma.  I don't know who made it, but no doubt in my mind.
You should get a UV light, but you won't need to just to verify this one.

Martin, I've posted a better 'plan view of the ashtray, which BTW is quite heavy and large for domestic use, so I'm guessing it was made for 'public use'.

However I've also seen other 'ashtray'  objects with this 'mound' in the centre, so I guess it does have a specific function?

Pipe-smoking experience anyone?

For tapping the pipe against to get the old tobacco out?

Possibly, but my dad always used a special blade/scraper, I don't think tapping HIS pipe would have had much effect 'cos it was too tightly packed.

On the other hand, perhaps with other types of pipe, or types of smoker....perhaps?!

I never smoked, but tapping-out pipes was certainly commonplace.  I remember, many years ago, hearing of someone sitting on the top of Dunstable Downs watching the gliders soar slowly past (London Gliding Club) in the hill lift.  As one passed, an arm reached out and tapped out a pipe on the wing strut.  The visitor was most impressed with the tranquil nature of the sport.

I was already flying gliders myself by then and it wasn't always as peaceful as that!!

Hi,
The raised centre in the ashtray serves a dual purpose. It is a pipe rest and also a 'knocker.' Yes that is its real name.  :lol:  And it is for knocking out burnt tobacco.

Yup, that's definitely the same one. And your's is just as cute!

Is it a design associated with a single Czech factory? (Ivo?)
