Title: Scotney & Earnshaw Reg. No. 252275
Post by: Paul S. on January 31, 2012, 07:32:16 PM
this is a companion Reg. No. to an earlier post for Reg. 252274......http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,45299.msg252995.html#msg252995......both Nos. being registered to Scotney & Earnshaw.
This may be of interest to those who, like Sid, commented on whether U.K. manufacturers offered any ruby staining......and although of course this is an amber staining, it may be relevant.         Regret I don't have any data on the dimensions, or what sort of piece this was.

Hello

This pattern is West Virginia Glass Co.'s No. 213 with the collector's name of "Scroll with Cane Band".   Introduced c1894.  I am becoming more and more convinced that the glass registered by Scotney & Earnshaw was made in the USA and marketed by them in the UK.  They were probably attempting to prevent English glass makers from copying the lines they were carrying.  Importers in the US also obtained design patents for some of the glassware they brought in for exactly the same reason.

Thanks for posting those.

Sid

thanks for details of the name Sid  -  it looks an attracive piece  -  stained pieces of pressed glass from that era seem to be a little thin on the ground, but I shall keep an eye out :)
