Title: Zelezny Brod Figurine help
Post by: sactownonline on February 01, 2012, 11:10:02 PM
Hello, I am a new user and found this website while unsuccessfully trying to research a glass figurine I recently bought at at thrift store. Any help to ID this item is appreciated!
It appears to be brand-new and still in the box.
The label on the outside of the box reads:
ZBS, n.p. 01 Zelezny Brod
MSP
C. vyr: 1130635
Ks: 1
Cena MC: 47 , -
Pol. SMC: 278
I will also attach a pic of the item if it is an option.
Thank you again for any help!!

Your figurine is made by Zelezny Brod Sklo of Czechoslovakia or the Czech Republic. Does it have a label that says which it is? Czechoslovakia ceased to exist in 1993 and the Czech Republic began. Which is on the label will give you an idea whether your figurine is older or more recent.

It's Neptune - Roman god of the sea, isn't it?

Does anyone know what the box sticker info means?

Cena MC: 47 , -
Pol. SMC: 278

The first is the catalogue / product number.
The second is the number of units / items.
The third is the price.  (Which can help us determine the rough age of the item)
The fourth -- I haven't a clue.

I'm sure Jindrich would be a huge help here... maybe he'll pop in and set us straight. :X:

So it was 47 Czk, about £1.50 or about 1.9 Euro in today's money?

I think it's Jaroslav Brychta

HI friends,
C. vyr = "Cislo vyrobní" = product number
Ks means "kus" = piece
MC  = maloobchodni cena  = sale price (in Czechoslovakia were prices given by state same price everywhere in whole country)

What ment POL SMC I do not know for the meanwhile.

Yes , it is Brychta s piece
The exchange rate issue. The re-calculation prices in Czechoslovakia to current price with current exchange rate is total nonsense. The exchange rate at that time was very different - Czechslovakian crown was not convertible currency.
To unnderstant the size or scale of 47 Kc should help you this:

My sallary - graduated structural engineer 5 years practice was 2 800 Kcs , my boss at that time had  3 800 Kcs. The beer in pub and in shop (same price at that time) 2 Kcs 1/2 litre. Dinner in pub  - main course from 6 to 12 Kcs. car Skoda  47 000 Kcs. 3 rooms appartment rent - 700 Kcs. The Vizner s "eye bath" pressed vase 12 Kcs.

In other words - for such piece of glass I had to work approx 4 hours, for the same amount I could have approx 24 pints of nice Czech beer! :-)

Wow, sactownonline,  how about that for a whole lot of info in one day!!

Welcome to the board, ( I bet you are glad you stumbled upon us!!)  and if this is the sort of glass you collect,  we will always be interested in seeing more of your collection and maybe you will be able to help some of us in the future.
Rosie.  :)

Thanks all! Very helpful. Who knew it would be so quick on the replies. It is my only piece btw. I am a huge fisherman and the fish that the figure is holding is what caught my eye when I stumbled upon this piece last week.
