Title: FILIGREE GLASS APPLE - PAPERWEIGHT?
Post by: Otis Orlando on February 02, 2012, 12:04:42 AM
Hi all,

Can anyone identify this filigree glass apple. Overall height 9.5cm, Concaved (cone shaped) pontil/base 3.3cm dia.  Depth 1.5cm.  Overall weight Weight 48g.  Researched has been carried out but unable to find one similar.   It would be interesting to find out how it was made.  I am sure that I have seen this type of glass around in the 1970's, but can't be too sure. Due to the weight I do not think this would be classed as a paperweight, which leads me the question.  What weight is classed as a paperweight?   Any help which can include reference info. is appreciated!

Try searching for spun glass in stead of filigree. Then try Verre Tresse which should get you examples from Nevers and from Liege where this type of lampwork was made a lot. As you already noticed, paperweight it is not - it is purely decorative.
