Any ideas on this ? Bohemian ? English ? Its very good quality, deep cutting , thick bristol blue overlay, cut to clear.
number 11 on stopper and base. 1.5 kg. 7 1/2 inches tall. Star Cut base.
Ive never seen a shape like it ! :o
Maybe for a liquer. Or maybe its more of a claret jug ?

In Andy McConnell's 20th century glass there is a Loetz one page 29 that is a similarish design in shape if you see what I mean? It is described as a 'spherical iridescent decanter', which is why I think yours is probably a decanter.
As to maker, I have just seen a set of decanter and glasses in this blue cut to clear overlay design, attributed as French. Personally my first stop for searching would be Czechoslovakian. So ...who knows? I can't think it will be that difficult to find one eventually though, it's quite a distinctive shape and great overlay design.

I seem to remember someone posting one of these on the eBay PGP board, and that they were finally able to confirm it was 19th century Baccarat. They had matching glasses as well.
In the US, this shape was called a "rum pot" but I don't think that applies in this case.

Nice, reminds me of Christopher Dresser... http://www.morganstricklandantiques.com/metalware/m32.html

Oooh, interesting ideas, i will have to do a bit more searching tomorrow.
I was looking through Andy McConnells decanter book earlier, and saw a page of Dresser items, and i did think
there was a resemblence !
Lots of snow here, so plans for trip to an antiques fair in the morning have changed. Online research instead !

Ivo,
im thinking you mean you have a similar Murano piece in this shape, not the overlaid blue?
Cheers

Identical shape but black glass, coral red handle and stopper, and white enamel lacy decoration and has half a dozen matching glasses on a tray.
