Not sure about this pair of vases. Nicely made, blown , i think , smooth on the inside,
applied enamel ? finish. The effect looks familiar.
12 inches tall, 1.2 kg.
Anyone recognise them ?
Cheers
Andy

D'ya think they may be recent, far east perhaps? :ooh: :pb:
-
Not sure where they are from, but while the finish may be unusual, I don't think there is anything particularly strange about it. The glass has been rolled in a mixture of glass powders and grains of colour, which some people call frit, and blown. You can achieve very nice results with this method and er...the results shown! Depends on your colour sense...

Thanks Adam, they are nicely made, its that classic vase shape, sort of Oriental porcelain that makes me think Easterly,
otherwise , they are a nice pair.
Cheers
Andy
ps i know not strange, i just couldnt think of the right way to describe them ::)

oooh me sir :rah: I recognise that effect ;D I've got two little vases with that kind of finish that were as far as I have managed to work out so far, err wracking brains here... Newcastle way, glassworks...Hartley Wood? and one came with a little tag saying Hartley Wood giftware, and I saw another on ebay stating it came from Hartley Wood before it closed down.
Off to check that I got that name right and I'll edit if not.

the finish on my blue one is really incredibly similar to the ones you've shown. The brown one also but looks as though it was 'melted' a little more.
Adam... if you read this, I sent you an email about an early studio glass piece but I'm not sure it got through as we are having problems with our email system.
Would you mind if I contact you regarding it please?

These are not far eastern in my opinion. They're something good. I just don't know what. There's some faint resemblance to Dartington Studio Alchemy (without gold foil).... and some resemblance to some Will Shapespeare bits, not that I know much about him other than his stuff is wonderful and he's been around a fair few places in his time.
(Just chucking in my thoughts - let flying free do her bit  - she's better than me at this!)
-
Sue, I thought Dartington Alchemy as well ! ...that shape if not the finish exactly? I don't think they are Will Shakspeare but that's only because his shapes don't tend to be as traditional as this, and I've not seen pieces using this finish. Although I don't know about his earlier pieces to be honest.

I've just grabbed my Alchemy - the shape is different. These have squared sort of shoulders, Alchemy has rounded ones.
These have a heat finished wide rim, Alchemy has a polished and arrised, much narrower rim.
-
mm, actually my little ones have an arrissed rim as well - however, that's not to say that on the bigger pieces they didn't do a heat finish...or is it? it's just that finish is so familiar and also the 'traditional ' shape and the odd use of colouration (imho I've always wondered why whoever did my little vases, used such uggh colours and such a standard shape) Andy, I'm not casting aspersions on your vases :kissy:

Thanks for the suggestions, Ive had a look on Will Shakespears site, nothing very similar there. :-\
I think they probably are something quite good, i presume mould blown, they seem to be the same size, decoration
is different though. I will keep looking.
Cheers,
Andy

The green between the flecks does a bit remind me of my vase in this thread:
