Just received (poor postman - it weighs about 4 kg) this stunning bird.
It screams Antonio Da Ros to me - am I right?
44 cm or almost 17 inches tall, neodymium glass with blue streak through body and tail. Blue "bloodspot" in base. Lots of base wear, no signatures or labels of any type.
Bought from Sydney NSW - and I was the only bidder! Couldn't believe it.!
regards
Jackie

Yes, it definitely screams Da Ros. It's a beauty.

BTW, you know your bird is most welcome in the Zoo. There's a special exhibit waiting for him in the Cenedese Aviary.
-
Thanks Anita - please feel free to use him for the Zoo. If the photo quality is not good enough let me know and I can email you the original - I had to resize it down to fit on the board.

Jackie, your bird is in the zoo now http://sites.google.com/site/muranozoo/birds-7 at . Let me know if there are any changes you want to make. (The duck at the top of that page reminds me a bit of your other bird in the way it holds its wings forward. But it has webbed toes, instead of separate.)

Thanks Anita - good to see it in the zoo
I contacted Tina at Design and Arts to see if she knew of my bird - thought you may be interested in her reply. (I have edited email addresses so they are not trawled)

<<Hi Jackie,
Thanks for your mail. The bird is for sure Cenedese and most probably by Antonio Da Ros. We would date it 1960ies. It is really a very very great piece and rare. I hope I could help you a little bit J.
Have a great weekend.
Best regards,
Tina>>
It was very kind of her to take the time to look at my photo and reply.

Oh Jackie..... wonderful piece......congrats on finding it and well done to the Post for getting it delivered in one piece. Where will you display it, it will certainly need some space?
-
Thanks Rosie
at present my display cabinet is showing off my birds so he is standing next to it. He is too big to fit inside it anyway ::)
Cheers,
Jackie

He looks great where he is Jackie.....almost as though he is looking at the others and saying I am out here free as a bird....you lot have to be caged up!!
Your display is so controlled....I wish I had more glass display cupboards to show mine off in.....they are all bunched up!

Thanks Rosie
I used to have everything all packed in together, then realised that I couldn't really appreciate anything because they were so crowded. Now I have most of my stuff packed in boxes and stored in the shed, and display a specific theme (like my birds!) for around a month, then get to unpack some boxes and display something else new. It is like finding them all over again when I unpack - a thrill of seeing them all over again....... And when I pack a display up to put away then I take it along to my collectors club and do a mini display there at our meeting. It gives me a thrill to see my collection being appreciated, and as I have it all packed up anyway it is no drama to take it along. It is a general collectors club, not glass specifically, but there are a number of glassies there like me!
Some of my display themes: - I think I have "eclectic: taste!
Scandinavian, Wedgwood animals, Dartington Frank Thrower, Paperweights - mixed makers, IOWSG , Caithness vases, Wedgwood candlesticks & vases, Whitefriars jugs and vases, Perfume bottles - various, Mdina
I sound like a true addict I guess.... :-[

Tina is very lovely and very helpful at D&A! She definitely makes the buying experience from them fantastic. I love our chats. Great bird jakgene

You are very disciplined Jackie....think I might take a leaf out of your book....now where do I start?
Ellies for a month.
FM Ronneby for a month,
Scandi for a month?
Birds,
Hedgehogs,
Bambi's,
Komaromy...yes I have 2 new pieces!!
Or should I go for colour?
All the golds and yellows,
All the blues and greens......
Oh how ever do you decide Jackie??
Worried and puzzled of Hampshire!!

Jak he is magnificent! What an amazing piece.
I put quite a bit of my glass away in cupboards and move things round otherwise I get bored really quickly (with the exception of my Moretti vases which are always out on display). I used to 'group' my glass by era or type but I've realised that actually the only way I enjoy it is if there is space round the pieces and if the groups are colourful. I really want to do serene, pale and sophisticated but actually they just don't do it for me.
Jak your birds look great in the cabinet as well, where you can see the colours and effects in the glass. I like that.
