Title: Brilliant Blue Optic rib vase for ID please
Post by: Leni on February 15, 2012, 03:25:05 PM
I'm sure I've seen this shape and style before, but I can't remember what it was.  I wondered if it was Webb?  It's 6.25 inches tall (19cm) and 7.25 inches (15cm) in diameter across the top.  Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

The shape looks a bit Stevens & Williams...I seem to remember they did 'Rainbow' in this shape and optic rib anyway...  :anb:  (I just liked the bunny)

My brain did "Steven's & Williams" too - but I don't know why and can't back it up.  ;D

Thanks everyone.  I think Stevens and Williams seems to be likely then  :)  Any idea of a time period?  It came with two 1930's Whitefriars pieces.  Would 1930's seem to be about right for this piece, do we think?

Leni in Charles Hajdamach's 20th century british glass page 139, plate 285 there is a lamp base, cut glass but this shape Stevens and Williams dated 1936.  Not sure if that helps any though.
I'll keep looking to see if I can find anything more relevant in design rather than a cut piece.

Yes, I see what you mean.  The shape is very similar!

The vase I'm asking about is very thick and heavy!  It's similar in thickness to the Whitefriars Optic Rib series, and I'm sure I've seen something similar as a 'mistaken identity' on the WF site sometime in the past, but I can't see it on Emmi's 'wannabe' blog   :-\

May I 'bump' this in case anyone can help with a definite ID for this vase?  I am trying to assist the elderly lady to whom it belongs, as she wishes to sell it and a correct identification for it would be really useful   :)

Thanks.

Nigel has a Stevens and Williams flared Rainbow vase on his site that appears to be a similar shape.  I don't know about the size though so can't say whether it is exactly the same  :-\

the only other thing that comes to mind, and I'm sure you've already explored this anyway, is Wuidart.

Well, funnily enough, I didn't consider Wuidart!  :pb:  Although I don't know why not, as this vase came with a Whitefriars and a Wuidart piece!  I just looked at the colour and thought it wasn't a WF colour.  I'm not an expert on the Wuidart colours though, so I suppose it might be possible  :spls:

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll investigate further
