Title: Help with ID please? Possible Royal Brierley?
Post by: AJLUNN1965 on February 18, 2012, 03:27:10 PM
Hello

Its 8" high by 7" dia The white pattern is slightly raised & the finish is a nice iridescence of green & purple.

I wondered if it was Royal Brierley studio. I ve been told Michael Harris designed a range for them in the 1980's?  :-\
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Andy

It was Harris, Harris and Harris Ltd. who designed the RB studio-style range.
A small company set up exclusively for this RB commission, it consisted of Michael, Timothy and Elizabeth.

It does look as if your piece might be RB - but it could be something else. I really can't tell - I don't have any experience of it in this particular colour combination, and it seems to me that similar things have come out of Poland recently - often candleholders or oil burners. I think I'd need to get my sticky mitts on it.

The polished flat top looks right for Brierley.
Im not sure what percentage were signed, but sometimes the signature on the base is EXTREMELY hard to find,
worth a good look in different lighting conditions though ;)

I'd say RB,the sig' is difficult to see,I've 9 pieces,I think, only three are marked, they are usually quite heavy yours looks right to me ;D

I am not convinced this is RB. The greeny colour looks a bit odd and so does the shape, the neck looks a bit truncated to me, compare it to the following globe vase. Happy to be proved wrong though....

Does anyone else have other any RB globe vases for comparison?

it looks right to me.  And if you peer very closely at the base and angle it to the light you may see in cursive Royal Brierley Studio - they are not always marked but it looks as though your could be although it may just be shadows and my eyesight  ::)  the green tint will be because of the iridescence I would think.

I've been pondering.
I think this piece is too thick for RB, the shape is unbalanced and somewhat inelegant. The RB pieces are not "hefty" and their iridesence is more subtle.
Sorry, I'm voting "no" to RB.

If you compare the third picture with this one there is a distinct similarity with the 'spots' and in some light the iridescence is the same,so I'm still saying RB Studio

Thank you for all your opinions. Its always good to hear the pro's & con's!

Looking at Keith's last post there are striking similarities & the neck is very similar. If that is a RB Keith, then i agree that mine is most likely to be RB also? I have purchased another piece which is signed & is a white background with the same iridescent design & the quality & weight is very similar.  :smg:

Thanks Andy
