Hi there, I'm about to buy this vase but am wondering who it was made by.....if anyone could tell me urgently as it will make a difference to how much I'm prepared to pay!
Mod: Auction image removed as per board policy. See lower down the topic for the link to the item.

Sorry, I can't help with id, but I'm sure somebody else can.
Welcome to the board. :hi:
There might be a problem with the image you've posted - it looks as if you''ve taken it from a listing?
You can post a link to the whole auction, but there are serious copyright problems with you posting somebody else's image on its own.
-
Thankyou, I'm so sorry about posting the pic instead of a link to the page.....I was in such a hurry and should have read your info for new posters! Great forum by the way!

P.S - Here's the link!

I see the auction is over. Were you the winning bidder? I don't know if it's Davidson, but if it is, it's not a common one. Nice looking vase anyway.
-
It doesn't look like any Davidson piece I've seen so far. I'm not even convinced it's English to be honest. I'd be looking more towards Germany or Czechoslovakia I think, but that's just my gut feeling...
-
It's certainly not a design I've seen before - I want to know, is it uranium? ;D

Apologies for the belated reply - yes I was the winning bidder, and I had asked the seller for a buy now price but I had to go out and didn't want to miss out so accepted (perhaps stupidly!) the buy now without asking any questions.
I'm new to collecting deco glass, my grandmother died recently and left me a collection of bagley glass which peaked my interest in the deco period and since then I've been buying the odd inexpensive piece, but my knowledge is definitely at beginner level!

Thank you very much, that gives me a direction to start looking in :)

It hasn't arrived yet so I'm not sure......hoping I haven't bought a dud reproduction piece! I guess all that should matter is whether I like the shape or not but I'll be disappointed if it isn't a genuine deco piece.
I'll report when it arrives!

Just out of interest, what are the Bagley pieces that you have? Have you managed to find references for them all? If you need any pointers on where to look, let us know. There are several very informative on-line resources. (I became quite interested in pressed glass last year, and am particularly drawn to the art deco and thereabouts stuff.)
Meanwhile we'll look forward to seeing what you think of your vase once it arrives.

Thanks for the offer, I've probably over stated it when I said 'collection' of Bagley , I don't have a lot!
I have two green Grantham vases, one green Wyndham vase, one green queens Choice bowl, one clear glass rose bowl (which I can't remember the pattern name of) ) and three Bedford pattern vases (1 large green and 1 small frosted pink - which I just bought a partner for recently so now I have a pair).
Luckily my grandmother kept them well, apart from the Bedford vases they all have their flower frogs.
Hopefully the vase will be here tomorrow or the next day so I'll keep you posted.

hoping I haven't bought a dud reproduction piece
Whatever you've bought it won't be that. You have to remember that Art Deco is a very vague term and that often items designed during the Art Deco period, like some of your Bagley items, were made for a good 20-30 years. Few of them have been reproduced though, although a fair few were copied at them time.
Art Deco style designs are still created, but they're not reproductions; they're new designs.
I would guess your vase could date from the 1930s through to the 1950s and is probably Czech. It might just be Australian! It's not a design I remember seeing

Sarah, If you're into Bagley Glass you really need the book by Angela Bowey (the owner of this board.) It covers almost everything you'll come across. Angela's in NZ too: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,19293.0.html
