I recently found these 2 gorgeous small ribbed bud vases in a charity shop
They have silver rims with London Hallmarks date letter i, I think they are very worn!
The glass is ribbed very finely apart from the 3 applied feet & looks irridescent when moved around in light. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

They look like spill vases, rather than for flowers. And they are machine threaded.

These are spooners hence the silver rim. The surface is what we know here as "Frisian" but which allegedly is referred to in England as "Bristol". Possibly these were produced in England and exported out of Bristol - but information is sadly lacking. Never seen any reference to this type of glass written down, where it originates, who made it - nothing. I'm sure there are a lot of collectors over here who would be thrilled with any snippet of information you might bring up.
These are not threaded but cut into the surface - not sure what the process is called technically. In my understanding mechanical threading is winding a glass thread onto the surface, not cutting into its surface. Another point which needs clearing up.

What is a 'spooner'? :-[ (don't say "see image above" :pb: ;))

Thanks guys, would it be a spooner as the diameter at the top doesn't look wide enough - only 3/4 of an inch!
-
A teaspoon here is small, silver and fragile- the blade is half an inch wide.

I don't think you can tell if it's engraved without handling and the fact that the ribbing goes under the feet would lead me to still think it's machine threading. It's too even for hand threading. Threaded items are pretty common in the UK and self colour threading is not unusual. Machine threading was invented here.
With such a small aperture, even with a small spoon, you run the risk of knocking it over or it overbalancing. Spooners are generally more like tall small sugar bowls.

Richarsons are said to have done a lot of threaded glass .

I have looked at these under a strong lens. They are definately threaded as you can put your nail in the gap & follow it round - it starts on the underneath. If not a spooner, would they be spill vases?

Hopefully this is an answer to the question I asked above:
