Can anyone help me with identification on this nice little opalescent vase? It is in a sort of tortoiseshell pattern. It stands about 8 inches tall & has three extra holes in the base. Very light & delicate with no marks anywhere to us a clue to who made it.

This is lampwork.
It bears some resemblance to works by Ed Iglehart, but I don't think he puts holes in the bases!
Having discounted Ed, I'd think it could be Tom Young if it's from the uk - or it could well be Lauscha from Germany. I think the most likely is Lauscha.

It looks like a copy of ancient Roman era glass to me.

Seen similar things from Israel, both in shiny finish and in matt. But it will be hard to id - lampwork requires a gas burner, a glass tube and the will to make something. And some skill of course....

There are quite a few lamp worked items (vases, candlesticks etc) to be found with labels on from Village Glass, as far as I can tell they retail and commission: http://www.villageglass.co.uk/?code=aboutus
They have a contact page so it may be worth asking them if they know anything about your item.
