I have this lovely little spill vase which is labelled 'Blackwater Glass'. I have searched the board and the net but can't find any references to Blackwater Glass. Does anyone know anything about them?
-
An identical one sold on eBay last month: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250987691388 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250987691388)
It was sold in the UK so maybe British? ???
-
Thanks for that - it is one and the same - I bought it! ;D
-
How many Blackwaters are there in the uk?
I'm sure there's one round about here - I used to get water samples from Blackwater for analysis when I worked for the Water Board.
(I love it, Nancy - it would be so nice to have..... along with a ton of Mouseman furniture...)
-
What a great skive, Sue! 'I'm just away to get some samples from the Blackwater - It could take a while . . .'
Yes, I certainly get plenty of results when I search for Blackwater. There was a directory listing came up for Blackwater Glass in Queensland, Australia, but no further info. Maybe some of our friends down under might be able to help.
I also got a result from the former Waterford glass in Ireland (sorry, I've forgotten what they're called), but only in that a piece of glass was called Blackwater something. No real info there either.
Ditto the furniture Sue!

I wasn't the sample collector - I don't drive!
I was the one waiting, lab all set up, for the samples to come in for the madness of processing them all when they finally arrived. ;D

I wonder if this helps? http://local.yahoo.com/info-41695377-black-water-glass-blowing-gulf-shores

Hi Ross. Thanks for looking!
It's a long shot but what the heck! I'm going to email a picture of the label to them and ask if it's theirs.
A few minutes later: email came back as domain name not known, so the directory listing is probably out of date.

Nancy, you could try these folks, might be the same ones?
Here on Facebook:

and on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlackWaterGlass

Thanks for the links Anne. I will try emailing them.
-
I did email BlackWaterGlass on Etsy and got a response - they'd never heard of another Blackwater Glass. I think they're either out of business (for quite a while) or not UK based. I'll keep looking.
Thanks all for your input. :)

Looks like lampwork to me, contact the BSSG to see if it is one of their members.
-
It IS a bit like a test tube . . I have taken your advice, Frank, and emailed the BSSG. Fingers crossed!
Thanks!
-
The BSSG kindly replied to my email - never heard of Blackwater glass but said that a number of their members could replicate it (the vase).
So I'm no further forward. There is just NOTHING out there about this maker.
-
Qell you still have Ireland and US, possibly Canada, NZ and Aussie to try :)
-
The dearth of info about Blackwater Glass makes me all the more determined to find something. So I'll try this planet first, then move on to others. ;D

Hello
I'm brand new to these forums but I found my way here via Blackwater glass.
I noticed this listing on Ebay today Vintage mega rare Blackwater glass (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150803737092?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649) and thought, "Oooo! That looks similar to my mouse bud vase!" I hadn't heard of Blackwater glass but googled "blackwater glass mouse" and ended up here. ;D
So I thought I'd at least post and let you know you're not the only one with a glass mouse vase. I've had mine at least 30 years and can't remember where it cam from originally.
-
Hi Blorengia and welcome to the GMB! That's an interesting way to have found us - I am the member who originally posted the query about my Blackwater mouse spill vase - and I'm afraid I have not been able to find out anything at all about Blackwater glass, although I have tried my darndest. :-\
Is your vase exactly the same as mine? (If different, a photo would be good if you could!)
I too have seen maybe one other (now 2) Blackwater items on Ebay - so maybe they are fairly rare,I don't know.
You've had yours a long time though, so knowing that is helpful. Have you any idea if it was even made locally to where you lived (or live)? (Knowing where a member lives sometimes helps to zone in on a particular country, at least).
Are you going to continue looking for more info? I'm sorry you didn't find it here - we have tried!
I'm so pleased you let us know about your vase though. If you have any other glass pieces that you'd like to know more about, here's the place to ask your questions! :)
-
Thankyou.
The photograph on my post above shows my mouse vase. It looks the same as yours. If you follow the Ebay link you'll see a much less exciting vase without a mouse.
I'm in Wales, UK, and I've always assumed that the vase is from the UK but have no proof of that. I'll keep my eyes open in case I see any other similar vases.
I'll have to get to know these boards and delve into all the info here. I'm not a great glass collector or anything but I do love glass, all sorts of glass... also marbles! I'll be sure to ask if I have any really awkward glass-related questions. ;)
-
Please do!
Awkward questions can lead to very interesting discussions from which we all learn.
Welcome! ;D
