Hi,
does anyone know the name of this Victorian window glass pattern?
I have a lot of it in my house, but have not seen it anywhere else.
I live in Australia.
cheers

Hi there, and Welcome to the GMB!
I do not know the answer, but I am sure someone will be able to help you. Again, Welcome :)

nope - not a clue, although it's attractive and I guess what you'd call a sort of deep lilac/amethyst. As you know, the pattern does repeat, so I'm thinking it's a machine etched (acid) decoration, which the Victorians were very fond of - they shoved it all over drinking glasses and many other glass products, although no reason why this sort of material might not have been made for some time post 1900 as well. Can only suggest you put a request to one of the main European decorative arts museums (V&A perhaps) - they might be able to assist. As a matter of interest, what is the construction date of your house - and assume you are convinced the glass is the original :)

More likely it's rolled plate. It's been around long enough; Chance improved the process in 1887
-
I would defer to Lustrousstone's greater experience :)

A long dead thread but these things still pop up in searches. Chance Brothers figured, rolled window glass officially known as "Pattern H" but regularly reffered to as 'Vine'...
1897 Pattern H - Registered number 297675

Hi si-free, welcome to the board. Thanks for responding to this old query, we never stop looking for answers on the board so replies to all topics are welcome irrespective of how long back they began. The link you provided to the patterned window glass is fascinating too, I'll add it to our useful links forum as well.

Thank you so much si_free! I'd forgotten all about this post. That website is awesome!

Hi Simon, you might find the album of Pilkington's colour samples in our Gallery of interest too https://www.yobunny.org.uk/glassgallery/thumbnails.php?album=724.

I hope its okay? I have 'stolen' 8 of your samples and used them on the page with links back here.

It's always and again a pleasure to meet people from around the world on GMB - all sharing their knowledge - thank you! :-*
For years I've got these two small, non-uranium-green glass trays with wooden frames, each glass plate measuring 30x20 cms. I bought them in Eastern Germany, former GDR.
I think I spotted both on your wonderful pages, Simon - thank you!
The floral pattern is Pilkington JAPANESE
The very dark green rolled glass plate is either un-identified 1 MORISCO or RELIANCE china figured.glass_4
Any ideas regarding approximate age, please? My gut feeling was pre-WWII but now I guess these are much younger...

I am glad the page was of interest and useful to you.
Japanese was a very popular design produced in several tints of green as well as other colours. The original name for the "Morisco" pattern will turn up sooner or later in a catalogue or sample pack. In the art-glass market this pattern is sold as both "Orient" and "Arabesgue". Pilkington's Arabesque has already been positively identified and its not that, but I suspect it may turn out to be "Orient".

Sorry I did not answer your question....The British Archives, stored at Kew London, contain all the registrations for the patterns but unfortunately they have not been digitised. Without registration numbers dating the patterns is tricky. The earliest reference to Japanese I found was 1908. As for the age of the original "Morisco I have no idea.

Thank you very much, Simon :-*
Regarding "Morisco": you definitely seem to rule out chinese "Reliance"?
