Title: "Crown over n" logo
Post by: Wuff on March 27, 2012, 04:51:19 PM
I would be interested in comments on the logo (and the paperweight) shown below. I am aware of the "Crown over N" logo used by Nachtmann - and cannot see any connection. My impression is, the logo is acid etched, but I may be wrong, of course.

Canes are by Fratelli Toso, paperweights with these canes have also been marketed by Goebbles.

Thank you for the "bump", Alexander - I was just about to do the same ;) by asking whether anyone wanted to comment on the weight itself, as nobody seems to know this logo: could it be an "invention" to make an unsigned weight more interesting?

About the canes: I am no good at Murano, but felt the canes could be Scottish - Perthshire, McDougall, Deacons, ...?

So now the discussion is open on the weight itself, and its origin.

To me, the canes look quite like some in the Perthshire paperweight shown below. That said, I once had a small concentric with canes very like Wuff's weight (can't find the image - sorry), and I showed it to John Deacons.  He did not recognise the canes as Scottish...!

Typical Murano faceting

Yes, I agree with Alexander and Mark, the weight is 100% Murano. I am puzzled by the logo though. For me, crown over N evokes immediately 'fine Napoleon' as already suggested below. Nothing else comes to mind. However, I have tracked down a great number of Napoleon Cognac logos but none matched....
