Title: Jacobean glasses on glass stand ?
Post by: Simba on April 01, 2012, 05:02:09 PM
Second of this weekends finds is this set of 5 jacobean pattern, small glasses on a victorian looking stand which comes in two pieces. Is this set original or a marraige of convenience ?

I don't know, but the stand looks an older style

I'm not aware of seeing this particular upright stand before - although anything is possible, since something approaching 300 differenct designs were made in Jacobean.     However, would have thought that the giveaway should be that the iconic rectangular 'Jacobean' lens pattern should also be seen on the stand.     There is a cruet stand (showing these lenses) in Miller's (page 114) - so on that basis I would suggest that your stand may not be Jacobean  -  and as you may be aware, many of the designs are marked 'Jacobean'.
I've been picking up the odd piece for some year or two now, and have a few tucked away - if ever you see the table lamp (with oxidised fittings) buy it at any price.
Does anyone know where a much more comprehesive catalogue (than Miller's or Hajdamach) of designs may be seen.

There is a Jacobean 'Five Piece Revolving Dinner Cruet' No. 7760 on page 11 of the 1950's Clayton Mayers Catalogue. Not the same as this stand I think, but worth noting in this thread.
