On Australian Ebay this item is currently for sale.  It seems to me to be most unusual and I wonder who might have made it.

Hi Ross, my guess is that it was designed by Jan Broz for Skrdlovice in 1956.  Of course, I could be mistaken.  It is an interesting item, but I'd call it a bowl rather than a vase.  :)
