Title: Thinking of buying this piece
Post by: mc3378 on April 06, 2012, 07:03:44 PM
I'm thinking of buying this piece, but of course no label or name on it. So I'm hoping to get some opinions on it. Could it be murano, the bottom is ground and polished. I would say it is about 18 inches tall and 24 inches around, and very heavy,  but I'm a little worried about the top because it seems a little uneven. The tag says it is 30 years old. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks

Doesn't look like Murano to me.

I would say from the out set that I agree with David, it certainly doesn't look like Murano.

The opening of the neck looks a little 'unclean' (but your photo is a bit blurred), the colours also look a little random for Murano.

A photo of the base would have given more clues. I suspect it's Chinese or Romanian - however, the Romanian (I have seen) pieces are a little more unusual. If the base was ground but not polished this could suggest either Chinese or Romanian. If the base is marvered, it could be Chinese.

Where did you see it? That can be a clue also.

But like all things, the most important thing about buying glass is 'do you love it?' If you love it then does it matter where it was made?
