Title: spatter glass vase unusual ?

hi
i have seen loads of spatter glass vases but i have never seen one with a sparkly affect. and what do they use to make it sparkle.

It looks as if it could be green "aventurine".....

Looking at the sparkly bits, are they silver "glitter" under clear green glass blobs, or is it sort of like green glitter within the glass?
True green aventurine is quite unusual.
I'm sure somebody with considerably more knowledge than I can explain things properly - but I'm aware that green aventurine is a scarce and highly desirable feature in Monart glass.

However, I believe its production depended on some strange and slightly fluke-y chemical reaction (pehaps an oxidation?) occurring on the surface of something (when exposed to air).

I've got a lovely bit of Hadeland by Gro Bergslein which has true green aventurine in. ;D

i think it is green sparkle as there are some in the blue that still shows green. i would have thought if it was silver it would sparkle blue in the blue glass

That would suggest, as I suspected, true green "aventurine".  8) 8) 8)

Its presence may help to pin down a maker, but I'm afraid I'm clueless.
I would suspect a Bohemian direction.

Does anybody think it might be a hyacinth vase......???
(we need more input from others here!)

Probably way to big for hyacinths, how tall is it Stew?

Bohemian I would think too, I have seen this particular shape a few times, each with different colours.

More likely part of a three part garniture but definitely not a hyacinth. What size is it? I might look at Welz

Agreed - not a Hyacinth vase - can't see through it so no fun watching the roots grow!

Don't think it's a spill vase, either - I have a similar shaped example which is 23.6 cm (9.5 inch) in height - so the spills would have to be fairly long.

When I used to wander around UK fairs, these were usually described as a "pedestal vase". Christine is right that they could have been part of a garnature, but I had never seen one as part of a set, just as single vases.

My example is shown below - very similar shape, which I think was quite typical. Has (rubbed) gilded decoration over yellow-white spatter ... and of course , yellow-white spatter must mean it is Moser ... right? Hmmm. :)

Initially, green aventurine was made in France using chromium, but apparantly other methods were used later.
