Title: Pair of faceted colourful crested birds . possibly Murano colours?
Post by: Andy on April 15, 2012, 04:22:43 PM
Lovely quality pair of Parrots? on a perch . I have no idea , except the tails are in very typical Murano
colours of red yellow and blue, each part of the birds is seperate and then stuck together. All cut and well polished.
Any ideas??
Cheers
Andy

Any clues to these birdies? Hints where to look?
A bit Swarovski in style, and i think they must have taken a long time and expertees to make,
Could be from anywhere in the world, although i still think those colours are very 'Muranoish'
Cheers

Are the various sections glued together?

The figurine reminds me of many of the faceted crystal pieces made in China. The base is the same and the crests and bills look Chinese to me. I am pretty sure it is what your figurine is.

Thanks all for looking.
Yes John , glued together  ;)
Anita , im sure if you dont recognise them as Italian, then Chinese is most likely,
they havent got a lot of age, it was just those colours are so 60s Murano, so i thought a vague possibilty .

Andy, I saw those parrots last night, but the stand was different than yours, so I didn't want to confuse. I looked on Alibaba.com and found some that had similar stands, some that had similar crests, etc., but I never could find your specific figurine. I'm glad that you agree that it is Chinese.

Murano is not known for faceted crystal figurines. They are into furnace and lamp work there. The colors of your birds are very nice. People favor colored crystal now. My greatest concern with crystal figurines is the quality of the adhesive holding the pieces together. Swarovski uses an epoxy that is strong and enduring. Other companies have inferior adhesives, so the figurines often fall apart a few years down the road. I wonder how the Chinese figurines will hold up.

BTW, I have also had two Swarovski figurines that have lost parts when the epoxy gave. They can be repaired if the old epoxy is removed and a new quality epoxy used to put things back together without being considered damaged (if the crystals weren't broken). The problem comes when someone uses an adhesive that ages and becomes opaque. We see this a good bit.

Thanks Anita for all the information. I'm not sure i will own them long enough to check on the longevity of
the glue, i think they will go into a mixed lot at the local auction sometime !
cheers
