Title: Marie's bubbly blue cased in green square vase for Id, please
Post by: Bernard C on April 17, 2012, 11:28:06 AM
Five images on GlassGallery (http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-16246) with click image to enlarge feature.

H. 6¾" 17.0cm, w. 3¾" 9.5cm, weight 3lb 1oz 1389g.

Note the bubbles in the blue have concentrated blue around them, like Nazeing and S&W bubbly.   You can feel the bubbles on the inside of the vase.   Neatly ground out and polished pontil mark.

Belongs to a friend, Marie, in turn a gift to her from a gentleman friend.   Any ideas on attribution and date of this attractive chunky vase?

Thanks for your interest,

Bernard C.  8)

Greg — That's brilliant.   Thanks.   It took you all of 9½ minutes — why the delay?  ;D

Of course, once you know then it's easy.   Here is another on the GMB in January 2010:

  • Interesting Bubbled Blue & Green Cased Vase ID = Benny Motzfeldt for Randsfjord (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=30780.0)
  • See also http://starkeld.com/showprod3.asp?cat=326 where the same vase in a different colourway is described "Designed by Benny Motzfeldt between 1967 and 1970, when she left Ransfjordglass for Plus."

Glad I could help Bernard.  :)

Benny, certainly did produce some rather nice pieces, I think I am going to have to try and find some extra shelf space somewhere.

Greg — Please would you email me.   I tried the GMB message system, but it doesn't seem to work.

    Thanks,

This vase only comes in one colourway - it's just a combination of the execution of the piece and the photography that makes it look a little different in the last link, Bernard.

    Hi Bernard,

I just noticed your email and post, sorry not to pick up on it earlier. I've emailed you through GMB, please let me know if it hasn't come through and I will try emailing you directly.

    Thanks
    Greg

Greg, could you email me too, please? I've lost/deleted your email address, (after downloading your images of course) and I have stuff to send to you...

I've just checked my Benny book, she was at Hadeland from '55-'67; Randsfjord from '67-'70 and Plus from '70-'84.

I imagine that's all a bit rough, because I can make out she spent time in Murano, and she may have worked with Timo Sarpaneva at some point. Sadly, I can't read Norwegian.

I also imagine that her designs were carried on after she left Randsfjord, because pieces in this colourway (and the related designs which have an unusual partial casing of a layer of strange grey-ish metallic stuff) are certainly the most commonly seen Benny pieces.
