Title: Glass with an etched bee mark.
Post by: loweantiquesllc on April 17, 2012, 11:08:16 PM
A user on another forum thought that you folks might be helpful with this piece. It has a bee etched into it with a word that I can't make out. Looks like the first few letters are WEP or NEP, but they thought it may be a DEPOSE. Hoping you folks can clear it up.

Hiya and welcome to this board. Higbee of Cleveland used the bee mark but they are usually associated with cut glass and pressed glass. There is a ton of information out there, google and see.  I cannot really make out what it is you have. A handled plate?
Are you in the US? Higbee is rarely if ever found outside.

Its not higbee's bee.

Its kind of a nappy dish, but the handle loops over and connects to the center.

I found a reference that said that things marked DEP may be french or german as an export mark or registered respectively. So that just leaves the bee.... or wasp? Its also on the top... not on the underside which I thought was odd.
