Title: Tankard ID Help needed please. ID probably = Sowerby
Post by: Janet on August 12, 2008, 01:54:36 PM
Hi,

I think this tankard and vase could be Sklo Union but cannot find any information on them. Could anyone confirm if they are please? Also any info regarding age and designer would be great.
Vase measures 6" high and has birdbath type base.
Tankard is just over 4.5" high and has birdbath type base.

Many thanks, Janet.

Tankards are a mine field. You've only got to look the Czech and German catalogues to see dozens of variants. However, I have a green uranium one like yours and I have tentatively identified it as Sowerby from the catalogue CDs.

Thankyou for your reply Christine, yes i also thought the tankard could be Sowerby, because of the colour really, its exactly the same colour as a bowl i have. Thanks for that.

Any ideas about the vase at all? I have looked all over but cant find any info.

Janet.

appreciate Lustrousstone has said only 'tentatively'.      Probably also wrong to base an attribution on colour, however tempting - many factories used this amber colour for pressed glass.     Certainly the curve in the top of the handle is a Sowerby design feature and does appear on the extremely few examples of cans that they produced, although I don't see a heavily waisted example quite like this.    I may have missed it, of course, in which case grateful for Janet's sake to be proven wrong :)
