Title: Green glass enamelled claret jug with an odd looking handle
Post by: Tigerchips on April 22, 2012, 12:37:23 PM
I think it might be Bohemian, 19c?

It has a really odd looking handle which caught my eye. I have not seen one in green with enameling yet, just plain cranberry or ruby glass. Sharp unpolished pontil.

that handle reminds me of the mane on a Portuguese Man Of War ;)
Sorry, can't add anything reall useful but, this shade of green was quite common I believe on second half C19 pieces, and the colour of the enamelling looks right for the period, and handles were often 'pincered' to provide various forms of decoration.       You may have trouble nailing down the country of manufacture though.  :)

Thanks, i'm just glad it's old, and it was so cheap.  8)

if you look at the top left picture in the 'August' 2011 GMB calendar (all my own work ;)) - there are several of these probable C19 bottle green rather basic looking pieces, some with gold decoration and some with a similar type of enamelling to yours.
