Title: Archimede Seguso black and aventurine duck?
Post by: scavo on April 23, 2012, 10:15:24 PM
I found a very similar mexican but cannot relocate. I think it was attributed to A. Seguso.

I've looked through hundreds of images online but cannot see anything the same again.

No siganture I can find - probably lost it's abel.

Any help / pointer very appreciated.

It's not aventurine, but rather a foil applied to the gather that gives this duck its special appearance. I don't think it's Seguso, but it does look Murano.

I have a very similar one to this made by Granna Glass of Sweden,  but there are also some very nice pieces selling at the moment by Crystal Clear Cleectables.
I am not saying yours is either of these,  just giving you something to look into. My Granna glass collection is here on the Board,  so do have a look in the glass gallery section.
In the meantime I will try to find n example of a CCC one for you to see.

I think it might be the same maker as this ellie:

and this duck, although the style is slightly different.

I think you may have found it Rosie. I thought mine was better than that! If the one I bought had looked like the one on ebay I wouldn't have bought it. The elephant is even worse!

It's made me look at mine with a much more critical eye.

I'd like to see the base of the Leonardo ones as mine compares strongly to to GeP mexican chap.

Sorry if my not liking the Leonardo ones upsets you, Rosie. But I think they are pretty poor, if the examples on ebay are representative.

Hi Scavo....not in the least bit upset,  I was more worried about upsetting you if you thought yours was G&P. And of course,  it might still be G&P.  :)
I have seen a few Leonardo CCC pieces, and they are better in the flesh than in pictures,  but you would have to make up your own mind about that.  It might be worth buying one if only to lean from,  then sell it on?? They are quite cheap.  I often do that to learn look and handle,  then put them up for sale or give them to my Grandson who wouldn't even notice the little chips or scraches or poor workmanship!

Thanks Rosie,

Your little Granna ducks came up top result on my google image search. Completely different to mine. They are beautiful though.

I agree, maybe the CCC/Leonardo ones look better in the flesh as it were, than in those photos.

I think I may have the key in differentiating between GeP and CCC argento pieces could be in the execution of the figures. Mine has quite pronounced tooling marks and the head is slightly lumpy. Is it fair to say, I should not expect this from a maestro?

I don't know who made the duck, but it isn't any of the Segusos or G&P. It doesn't resemble their work. My strongest suspicions are that it is either a generic Italian piece or it is from China. The Crystal Clear duck is the closest I've seen, but I think just about anyone could have made the duck.
