Title: Is this Strathearn glass? ID = Caithness Glass
Post by: quince21 on April 26, 2012, 06:43:57 PM
Hello - Was hoping someone could help me identify this vase please? It's a pretty amethyst and blue twist stem with a heart square base. Approx 22cms tall. Thanks :)

Made by Caithness in the 1970s and 80s, part of the Oban range. Some have a twist like yours most don't, made in various different heights and colours.

The twist is very unusual - not one I've seen around - and I DO see a lot of Caithness around, I live in Caithness-land.  8)

In his book on Caithness Mark Hill credits Charles Orr and Peter Fuin with the Oban designs (in 1969). Inspiration usually comes from somewhere, no idea which came first though or if both were inspired by a third party....
