This is a real large blown bowl with pontil marks on the undeside. It is quite thin glass and not that heavy for its size and the only pattern is speckles of green with an overlay of angular shapes in Aventurine. It is also Uranium glass and glows under uv light - about 33cm across. I would be really greatful of any ideas on this please. Thanks as always. Markus

I know where you are coming from, the shape is similar to Monart/Vasart shapes and they used aventurine, but I don't think it is, I have some large Stuart posy bowls but none in green or uranium. The roughly broken pontil doesn't point to either factories so it could be any factory and any country. The shape and style is rooted in the 30s but could be a lot later.

No idea who made the bowl sorry, but it looks more like gold leaf than aventurine to me.

Ditto, was about to say same, can we have a photo of the base showing the gold in more detail Adam?

Try it on a plain white background; two sheets of A4 paper would work

Definitely gold leaf, I very much doubt Scottish.
Is there any age-related wear?

I would say Italian , especially with the multi dot pontil , often 3 or 5 dots ,and gold leaf .jp
now tell me there are four dots . ;D ;)

Hi Guys and fikrstly sorry for the delay in my reply but have been laid up in hospotal with kidney infection. However, home and much better and read all your replies and you are correct about the gold. It is leaf like isle of wight and not much of it so it is hard to photo. As for the "dots" around the pontil, you are dafe John as there are 8 or 9. The final thing is the edge treatment rolls under in a tight little roll but this stands proud on the underside leaving the top a gentle sloping form. I have some more pics on white for you but again, the colour, is very feint on this bowl but it does all swirl into the centre. Thanks again. Markus
