Title: Carnival Moulded Candlestick pattern with bees ?
Post by: davem on April 30, 2012, 08:08:56 AM
Hi again from Ireland ,
Not sure about these candlesticks , anyone recognise the pattern ?
Have searched butterflies , bugs , bees etc and no joy :(

Are these carnival glass , they have an oily iridescent finish but not the wonderful blue oily finish I'd call carnival ?

They measure 8 5/8" high
There is wear to base and a few chips . Tat or good ones ? Many thanks , Dave.

You might like to look at them in two different colours on my website too  ::)

And here on my old website (kept for archive purposes) where you can see the Riihimaki signature trademark on the base of my blue candlestick.

And here - where we listed the Riihimaki Firefly candlestick as one of our Honourable Mentions when we did the Top Ten European Carnival Glass pieces a few years ago.

A little extra info. on the Firefly also known as Moth candlesticks. We bought our first pair in an Art Deco Collectables shop in Hampshire about 20 years ago. It was an amazing find, in retrospect, as Riihimaki's Carnival Glass is very seldom found in the UK. These candlesticks are actually rather hard to find anywhere! The pair we found in Hampshire were in an aqua-grey base glass, very unusual, and had a gold iridescence.

We bought our second pair in cobalt blue (with the Riihimaki trademark on the base) on one of our research trips to Helsinki about six years ago.

Yours appear to be pink base glass with a light iridescence. Unusual pieces!

Aaah Firefly , I'd have been a long time going through my insects before trying that . Would never have guessed Scandinavian either . Shame about the chips in these :(
What a great site and board , thank you very much for all of your help once again , Dave.

Dave, we're always happy to help here, but when you use GMB help to attribute your glass and then put it on eBay immediately, it's nice if you acknowledge the GMB in your auction.
