Anybody able to confirm (or deny) that this vase is WMF Ikora glass?
20 cm tall, dark red glass with clear crackle, then a layer with lots of powdery/bubbly inclusions in blue and yellow, thickly cased in colourless glass again.
Base with circular polished pontil mark.
I have seen an identical vase on ebay.de described as WMF Ikora (but that seller is usually inventing the attributions, so not very reliable).
The technique does look like Ikora though, but not so sure about the colours and the shape...
Thanks for any help,
Michael

Hello Michael,
sorry I canīt help with an ID. These are annoying me for years now for escaping a positive
identification. Personally Iīm rather sure they are not Ikora and considerably younger, but
- alas - what they are...?
-
Dirk, thanks a lot for the info!
So rather not Ikora...
You may well be right about it being much more recent than Ikora. But the oxblood red basic colour doesn't look very modern to me either...
Do they come in different shapes and/or colours too?
And out of curiousity (as I haven't got the Ikora glass book, and everything Ikora seems to be attributed to the 1920s and 30s) -- how does 1950s Ikora glass look like?

Exactly alike. ;D I think people always think itīs a sales argument to date it a bit earlier.
I havenīt got the book at hand at the moment - sorry, Iīm still piling cardboxes...
Generally the range of colours is much more limited: the īusualī green/brown and red/brown
and this decor in red and green:
ebay (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Riesige-WMF-Ikora-Glas-Schale-unregelmaessiges-Dekor?item=170829821115&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8251996065796974871)
Not sure my list is complete - Iīd have to check...

Dirk, thanks a lot for your reply!
I think I will have to get the book and stop bothering nice people here ;D
One more thing I noticed: while browsing the artglassleiden site I came across this vase (http://www.artglassleiden.nl/archives/16264) which usually is attributed to Wiedmann for either Gralglas or WMF from the 1970s (another exampe here (http://www.jahrhundertwende.eu/images/dscn7608.jpg)); there was one on the board a few months ago, and I have seen one in an antique shop here in Vienna.
The rather "modern" look with vibrantly coloured and densely packed inclusions together with the thick clear casing do remind me of my vase; any chance they could be from the same maker? (I think the attribution is not really confirmed yet?)

I think the blurb should be read as ' could it be this or could it be that, i really have no clue' rather than as an attribution.
-
Ivo thanks a lot for looking into this!
Unfortunately I don't quite get the point (due to my limited English :-[) -- what does "the blurb" mean? The artglassleiden blog?
On the other hand the same vase has been discussed here (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,40987.0.html) on the board, and attributed to Wiedmann (with some reservation).
Any idea which maker could be responsible for my vase?

a blurb is a piece of text.
Sorry I don't have a clue who made your vase. I agree with Dirk - it is not WMF Ikora - and if you look at the WMF book you'll see that a wavy or ruffled top is not in accordance with the WMF style. At all.
I also cannot see it as Schneider, or as Gral either and I will not speculate - why it could be anything!.
-
Thanks anyway Ivo! ;D
So unidentifiable for now -- I will have to live with that...

Just an interesting observation (doesn't really help in ID):
glaskilian.de has a bowl on their website which looks decidedly more like Ikora glass, but bears some strong similarities to my vase: >>link (http://www.glaskilian.de/WMF-IKORA-Glas-Schale.141+B6YmFja1BJRD0xNDEmcHJvZHVjdElEPTk3MTUmcGlkX3Byb2R1Y3Q9MTQxJmRldGFpbD0_.0.html)
It has the same brownish-red colour with yellow crackle pttern at the inside fading to clear towards the bottom, and blue powders at the outside (though not as strong as in mine). Seems to be thickly cased in clear as well.
Another top view pic of my vase attached...

And another of these bowls with the exact same decor as my vase >> here (http://www.sellingantiques.co.uk/antiquedetail.asp?autonumber=94559)
Still no clue about the maker, though...

well I don't know - I've not checked the book but that blue looks like a blue I've seen used on Wiedmann bowls

Thanks m, unfortunately nothing similar in the Gralglas book or on the CD-Rom, and no wavy rims on WMF Ikora pieces.
You're right that the blue and yellow powders remind of Wiedmann pieces like >> this vase (http://shop.strato.de/epages/61231908.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61231908/Products/277)
Seeing that bowl (and not knowing my vase) I would have been rather sure about the Ikora attribution...
