Title: Vase - Isle of Wight? Alum Bay? - ID = Mtarfa
Post by: scavo on May 17, 2012, 08:11:07 PM
The shape of these seem to vary quite a bid.

I think it's Alum Bay but are the colours right? If so, what age?

I thought that might be Mtarfa?  but I could be wrong :-\  I didn't think Alum Bay did these splotches and I do think Mtarfa did that colourway.

Absolutely Mtarfa. Quite a distinctive design.
I like it (I don't know why). I have a couple of bits.  ;D

The shape is very similar to a range done by Alum Bay to this day. I have one. I checked the Mtarfa stuff on Wayne's site and I now see the similarities with colours he displays.

I agree, the white liner and shape might easily suggest Alum Bay, but this design of colours is Mtarfa. This is my favourite bit.

A ground base like that would be unusual for an Alum Bay vase.

The piece of Alum Bay I have is packed away but I do remember an inverted nipple type pontil but couldn't remember if the base was finished on the marver or polished. Now you mention it I think it is marvered.
