Title: Moser? Glass Slipper and a Vase I could use help with
Post by: Catisfaction on May 23, 2012, 05:39:47 PM
Hi everyone, I have a couple of pieces that I'm having trouble identifying and I hoped that the larger knowledge of European glass here might be able to shed some light.

One piece is what I think could be a Moser glass slipper but I can't actually find anything to determine if it is or not. It certainly has that Austrian glass feeling to it. It measures 5" long and just over 1 1/4" tall. It has a gilded decoration and a rich honey amber coloring.

The other piece, I can't decide if it's something interesting or a florists vase.
It's thick heavy glass like the Scandinavian makers used to use, complete with bevelled edges. It has this textured effect on the outside except for the part where the horse images are. I don't have it to hand because I just moved and everything in packed but it's about 6" tall and 5" square.

Sorry can't help with your vase or slipper. You may have a better chance of getting an id if you upload your photos to the message board. Some people will not click on links and it does not help that your first link does not show the whole object in question.

One item per query helps too.

Thanks.

My pics used to show as thumbnails here, I don't know why they don't any more. I never did figure out where to go for the board photo album thing.

Four photos can be added to each post, each photo needs to be 124Kb or smaller though, some help here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html

Use the attach function to add a photo when you start or reply to a topic (click more attachments to add photos 2, 3, and 4).

I just found an acid etched mark on the base of the horse vase which I'm having a hard time making out cause of the dappling.

I also just came across this online which seems to have the same or similar dappling and is mont joye according to the site.

I'll post a pic of the mark in a minute.

Here is the mark.... what you can make out of it. Does it look familiar to anyone?

ironically it reminded me of the surface texture of Mont Joye pieces when I saw it.  However I do believe others used this texture or finish as well.  And the mark you show, very difficult to see, looks as though it could be an acid etched sig and the first letter looks like a 'v' as in the v from val st lambert as Ivo has said.
Maybe google Val st lambert sigs and see if you can find an acid etched mark which looks the same?  I'll have  a quick look to see if I can find one  :)

there is one here (scroll right down to bottom of page and the middle sig is the one I was thinking of

and another here

Interesting, I hadn't seen that VSL mark before.... Loving that web page!

I'll keeping poking around at VSL and see if I can come up with anything. No joy so far but you never know :D
