I have been digging in the stuff I have packed away, looking for my WMF "Medusa" bit, but I found this bit of WMF too - something I've had for donkey's years.
It was bought in an antique shop, (probably a very overpriced one!) in Amsterdam, and has an auctioneer's label on it.
I thought it looked like a pine forest, covered in snow, I also thought at first it was very dirty - but further investigation showed it was actually originally lined with silver metal - which somebody else had tried to scrub out - so loads of it is missing.
In the years since I found it, I have never seen another bit of WMF anything like it.
The base is polished flat, with a round polished out pontil mark - not the more usual flattened-on-marver with polished pontil mark. It is just over 6" tall.
Is it of any particular interest?
Can the silver lining be restored?
I have described the pattern as primavera - as I have been told by a glassmaker that this is the proper, official term for the process of plunking the gather in cold water before further heating and blowing to create this effect on the surface of glass.
(Called Cloisonne in Ysart, Crizzle in Mdina and IoWSG etc. I don't know the official WMF term for it. Ikora?

Sue, I do not know much about this type of glass, but I had always thought these were Lötz Schaumglas (http://www.google.at/search?hl=de&q=l%C3%B6tz+klosterm%C3%BChle&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1281&bih=940&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=9EK-T_X-D-Tf4QTwmbkk#um=1&hl=de&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=l%C3%B6tz+schaumglas&oq=l%C3%B6tz+schaumglas&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_l=img.3...53426.54859.0.55107.10.1.0.9.0.0.79.79.1.1.0...0.0.eSZcRbYXmAM&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=18ea1061ffac2a18&biw=1281&bih=940)? ???

I don't know much about it either. Hence my posting it and asking for help!
I just assumed the auction house label was correct at the time. I've had it a good 10 - 12 years. It's been packed away and forgotten about.
None of the images (in your link) of the white stuff seem to be lined with silver metal, though - and there are several bits there which are definitely NOT Loetz......

I am sure you know more than me :)
This vase (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Art-Deco-Schaumglas-Vase-Loetz-Klostermuhle-/200745891980?pt=Glas_Kristall&hash=item2ebd63388c) however seems to have the same shape as yours, and has a label which is Lötz as far as I know...
No idea about the silver lining, never saw that before.

It does indeed - and it is finished off in exactly the same way. I believe you have solved its identity, Michael!
Wow - I had a bit of Loetz for years without knowing it! :-[
The silver metal lining has me really, really puzzled. Should it even be there?
Perhaps a kind moderator would change my title to include Loetz and schaumglas, and remove WMF and Ikora when/if they have time? [Mod: done as requested]

Just musing over the one Michael has linked to and the colour - it seems to my eye, but always difficult to tell on photos, that Loetz Schaumglas yellow is a different yellow to the Ikora Medusa - the Loetz is slightly paler and little more green in it I think. However I am still struggling to see the difference in the pattern although I believe Loetz used a similar method to the way Ikora was created according to the book, so perhaps that is why.

I have just found this thread accidentally, and I think I need to apologise to Rocco very loudly and clearly for saying "some of the things in the link are definitely not Loetz" :-[ :-[ :-[
I was very, very wrong. :-[
I didn't have a clue about the extent of their output! :-[ :-[ :-[
