Title: ID Help #2
Post by: paperweights on May 27, 2012, 10:27:33 PM
I'm posting two requests for ID help.  This is the second one.   It is a miniature, 1 4/5" diameter by 1 3/8" high.

Larger pictures can be viewed at:

Is it Bohemian, St. Mande, or something else?

Thank you.

Hi Allan

I am certain it is one of the St Mandé / Grenelle weights.  It appears to have the slightly blue-grey glass that is characteristic of some of these pieces, and a very typical centre cane.  Does it have a slight groove around it, on the lower part on the dome?

Thanks Alan,

Yes it does have a groove below the outer ring of millefiori.  What is the significance?

Regards,

Allan

Hi Allan.

I think the groove probably arises during encasement, but it seems to be a common feature of the miniature St Mandé weights.
