Hi Folks
I wonder if anybody can solve our mystery. This vase has been in the family years and I am dying to know who made it and how old it is. Comparing it with other crystal it looks yellowish,it has a star cut pattern underneath. It's big and heavy size being 10'' tall the top is 8''dia and the base is just over 6''
thanks for looking Alan

I assume it's cut and not pressed. Is it lead crystal? Does it ring when you flick it with your fingernail? Can we have a base shot please. It wouldn't surprise me if it was Scottish bearing in mind the shape and where I assume you are.
Pictures are always better against a plain, untextured background; that way the detail doesn't get lost against the background. Dark is good for crystal.

Hi Christine
thankyou for your response
not sure what happened but I have replied but it seems to have gone astray
I will have a look to see if I can find it
kind regards Alan

Hi Christine
sorry can't find it,in the ether somewhere.
I will start again.
I do not think it is moulded there are no lines down the side. When flicked it has more of a dink than a ding it is quite thick like this author it is rather worn at the bottom and I think it has been used as a shot glass at some point of its life
I live in the highlands of Scotland
here are some more pictures (digital cameras are just great best xmas pressie my daughter bought me beats the old 35mm)
Kind regards Alan

Yes, that's cut. I'm still thinking Scottish but I know little about cut glass.

If it's yellow, it's glass rather than crystal, isn't it?
And it's reminding me a little bit of these mystery glasses I have - although mine have a polished pontil mark.
One is yellow-ish the other is sun-purpled.

Thistle vase would be Scottish but I think these are difficult to attribute.
