Title: Modern Mold Blown? Vase. ID = Aseda Glasbruk
Post by: dorian_graye on June 13, 2012, 03:31:12 PM
I guess this vase would be considered mold blown, though there is no pontil or anything.  It's one of those hard to clean things with the recessed, molded areas.  I have no idea who made it or when.  It might even be a contemporary piece.  What do you think?

Aseda Glasbruk of Sweden, designed by Bo Borgstrom, first one I've seen in clear glass, scroll about a third of the way down this page for more examples:

Interesting.  Thanks Wayne! I never would have suspected Swedish or Scandinavian.  I thought it was Polish or something.  It was a completely blind purchase.  Thanks again!

I wonder what year this was designed.

I'm not sure exactly which year, but Borgstrom joined Aseda in the 1960's, and they closed in the 70's, so 60's/70's is a safe bet.  :)

Textured maybe, bark no. Bamboo is reasonable as that is what it depicts. Would you describe a texture that is meant to resemble stone as a bark vase m?

John I didn't know it was meant to resemble stone?  and I am only going by the information given by Swedish Mom on the thread I linked to.  I believed from previous posts that Swedish Mom had quite a bit of information on Aseda and Bo Borgstrom  :-\

This one resembles bamboo m, I just wouldn't call it a bark vase.

:-\ I think we have crossed lines here - I thought from your post and your question, that you knew for some reason that it was supposed to resemble stone.
well I suppose it depends what the bark looks like and as I say, Swedishmom was quite clear in the post I linked to that that was what it was called so I have always called them that.  I definitely wouldn't say this resembled bamboo though
this is how I think of bamboo

Bamboo (dried), note the 'nuckles': http://www.izzys-party-shop.com/images/672120_EP05.jpg

This is bad, we are trading images! ;D

;D I'm going to have to agree to differ for the moment
I do see what you mean but there is one being sold on Tradera at the moment listed as Barkvas.  Bark is the same in Swedish as it is in English I think.  So perhaps at the time of naming the piece, whether or not it looked like Bamboo it was called Barkvas, since Aseda do also have a vase known as Bamboo vase that does look like one cane of bamboo.   I have just seen somewhere else that this Barkvas apparently was B5/830, 831 and 832  number depended on height.

Hmmm, if SwedishMom says they are called bark vases, then I would trust her knowledge, that must be what they were originally marketed as, even though they do look to me like bamboo canes.  Maybe they meant bamboo bark?

As they are known as barkvas by the Swedish collectors I think I am going to have to agree. Any more banana skins lying around for me?

if you don't question, myths get perpetuated.
