Title: Always sold as Frantisek Visner but are they French !!
Post by: petet63 on June 15, 2012, 07:10:28 AM
I have two of these vases and have always understood they are French. They are continuously sold as F.V. Lens vases online. The vase is also done with a red highlight and I think amber. I say 'are they' but should say 'they are'. They do look good as a pair so it doesn't really matter but seeing them sold as FV mens a lot of people are buying a vase for £20 when they can and did cost me £1.50 each. Can anyone confirm my little rant  ;D or do I eat humble pie  :-[ :-[

At least 2 in every Charity shop. Like I said the clear ones are nice pieces of glass and they are heavy  (just dont upset the other half if she is near them) i will admit when I got the first one it was because I liked it and had not even given the red version  more than a glance as they just look wrong to me. These two hide a bad patch on the kitchen windowsill  ;D
I wont inform those selling these as FV as you either get ignored or abuse  ;D

I think the lensey-bits are a different shape on the clear ones - the coloured patches are much more rectangular. The clear ones also tend to be a lot bigger (although I have seen some big ones with coloured patches).
Don't quote me on any of this - I'm just digging around in some dusty recesses of my brain, but I'm of the opinion that these is a FV design a bit like the French ones - so there are some french ones (of poorer quality) and some FV ones (of superior  quality).

I think the gentleman that I bought the second one off would not be happy if it does turn out to be FV as I mentioned the french connection (good name for a film) he said to take it for £1.50. I get the feeling us Brits have a problem with the French ;D ;D ;D. For the sake of the PC brigade, I don't mind the French or any other nationality !!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

And I've just seen an enormous clear one (quite a bad pressing - lots of folds and wrinkles in the glass) in my local Oxfam, with "Made in Italy" moulded onto the base.

Having a look at both the ones I have a pretty clear and well pressed. I saw one the same as these with a French sticker on which is why I say french but If anything comes up to say different I would accept that. I could have listed as FV but it wouldnt make me feel good at all and I would have to buy something else to cover the mark until I decorate  ;D

The tall narrow ones as shown in Pete's post at the top of the topic are, as Ivo stated, Crystal d'Arques - see Margi's labelled example here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,29060.msg157656.html#msg157656  8)

They are that  ;D and as there are so many out there the original point is why do they still get sold as FV or more to the point bought. I suppose both buyer and seller could be to blame but as mentioned on here a few times, telling a seller they have listed wrong often gets a tirade of abuse or ignored. I could stick my neck out and let the buyer know but that might make them feel they have been had and no one likes that.   They are IMHO still a good looking piece of Glass, H is for Humble  ;D Polished up they stand out nice. Also ok to put flowers in  ;D ;D

Of all the variants of these I like this one the best, as it does look good and it sits well with Czech-made pieces too, hence the confusion I guess.
