Title: Richly cut vase with signature, help to decipher please.
Post by: Susie8000 on June 26, 2012, 07:17:10 AM
New member please be gentle with me whilst I learn  :)
We have inherited the attached beautiful vase from my husband's parents.  It is 39cm tall and 56cm around the largest part.  I have taken pictures from all angles for appraisal.  The picture with the torch is an attempt to emphasise an etched signature.  This appears as "D'Toy or D'Twy" it is hard to decipher.  I cannot find any other markings on it.  Their estate also consisted of porcelain pieces and these were all dated between 1890 and 1920 and I estimate that this is of similar age as it was originally my husband's grandmothers.  I would appreciate any assistance please.

Hi Susie and welcome to the board  ;D
I can't help with your vase, but thought I would give you a welcome and your post a bump so it may catch someone's eye who has knowledge of this type of glass.

Hello Susie and welcome to the board. Is it possible to get a good clear closeup of the mark please? Someone may be able to recognise or decipher it for you from an image. If you have a macro setting on your camera use that, and if possible zoom in, and focus on the mark, you may need to try different lighting to get the best view of it.

Dear Anne

I have spent some time and think the attached it the best I can do.  I have done it without flash but because there are so many cuts in the glass it reflects very easily and distorts the photo. Please let me know if this is better.  If not I will try and get a better photographer!
Kind regards
Susie

Thanks Susie, that's quite clear. I don't recognise it but someone else may do. I'll tweak your title a little too to try and catch a few folks' attention.

Sorry I don't know, but it looks a bit like D'Joy or D'Yoy or even D'arcy
